Breaking the Stigma

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and the UpValley Family Centers team is working to break the stigma of seeking help by providing a safe space to get information, referrals and support. We partner with Mentis, Aldea, and local therapists to ensure students and families living upvalley have access to mental health care. On May 18, our staff wore green to raise awareness and our youth programs at Calistoga Junior Senior High School hosted the first-ever student-driven and led wellness fair with community partners! The event featured activities geared towards managing stress and anxiety, including stations to create venting jars and wellness journals. If you need mental health support, please call our offices at (707) 965-5010 to get connected to services

Students Show Support for Tutors

This year we brought back our in-person tutoring volunteer program to St. Helena Primary, Elementary, and Middle Schools and also launched the program at Calistoga Elementary School. Our 28 volunteer tutors dedicated hundreds of hours across the four school campuses, working in classrooms with teachers and students to offer extra support, reading and math help, and mindfulness activities. Last week, students showered tutors with handmade cards and gifts to show their appreciation. As the school year wraps up, we want to thank our tutors, the teachers, school administrators, and our supporters for making this program possible. Summer break is just around the corner, but we are already looking forward to getting tutors back into the classroom and expanding the program next year!
