Above: one of many drive-through events we have been involved with this year. Our heartfelt thanks to partners who have made these events happen: the school districts, cities & police departments of Calistoga and St. Helena, Adventist Health, ParentsCAN, and AmeriCorps volunteers.

Goodness matters

This Thanksgiving, our UpValley Family Centers team is grateful for the goodness we see each day in our work. Amid the challenges of 2020 and the incredible hardship that families have faced, we are proud to be part of a community where people come together to lift each other up. Thank you for your partnership, for stepping forward to meet a need, and for being an example of goodness in our world.

Speaking of goodness and drive-through events - there is more to come!  A drive-through distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) will take place on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 1-4pm at St. Helena High School, 465 Main Street. Face coverings, N-95 masks and hand sanitizer will be included.

Take time to be prepared

In California, it's important to always be prepared for a wildfire. This long holiday weekend is an opportunity to shore up your family's emergency plan. In light of rising COVID-19 cases, there are preparedness steps that can help keep your family safe during a pandemic - available in this bilingual resource guide

Evacuating from your home early can mean the difference of life or death. Having a 5-minute plan with an escape route can get you and your family out and safe.  Don’t wait to be told to be evacuated, leave before fires get too close.

  1. Have an established meeting place
  2. Pack an emergency kit with essentials like medicine, important documents, clothes, food and water.
  3. Watch for weather reports and Red Flag Warnings.
  4. If you need to go, get your emergency bags packed and gather your family and pets.
  5. Most important, don’t wait for the evacuation order.

Make the holidays bright

Thank you for making this holiday season a little brighter for upvalley families. We have been receiving donations to provide families with a box of groceries and a turkey for a home-cooked holiday meal, as well as a gift card to purchase presents or household necessities. For those looking for a way to give back on this #GivingTuesday, it's not too late to donate to our holiday assistance program. Or consider donating your time as a volunteer to assemble packages the week of December 14th in Calistoga and St. Helena. To volunteer, please complete this form on our website.
