Day of the Dead Quinceañera

On October 29, we hosted our 15th annual Día de los Muertos Celebration in partnership with Nimbus Arts. We celebrated the diverse range of Latin American cultures represented in Napa Valley with a Quinceañera themed celebration. Special performances by Jazmin De Oro, Los Diablos Oaxaqueños del Valle, and Generation 5 entertained the crowd. Imported goods from Mexico and fresh traditional Mexican pastries and foods were available for purchase, supporting local vendors. The Quinceañera was made possible thanks to the generous support from all of our staff, volunteers, attendees, and sponsors - The City of Saint Helena, Damian Maldonado Memorial Foundation, The Doctors Company, Former Mayor Alan and Dr. Catherine Galbraith, Jones Family Vineyards – Elaine and Rick Jones, Pacific Gas and Electric Company and Westamerica Bank.

Expanding Immigration Services

October 28 celebrated National Immigrants Day and we are excited to announce that we recently received a $179,000 grant from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services as part of the Fiscal Year 2023 Citizenship and Integration Grant Program to expand our immigration services. As a result of this funding, we will be able to directly assist 120 people in filing applications for their US citizenship over the next two years. Additionally, the grant will support Napa Valley Adult Education to provide free citizenship classes in Calistoga and St. Helena – reducing access barriers for upvalley communities.

In a press release from Congressman Mike Thompson, he commented, “Our country is made better thanks to the immeasurable contributions of those who came to our country in pursuit of the American Dream. UpValley Family Centers throughout Napa County help families and individuals in our region achieve a healthy and successful life by providing services to help lawfully present immigrants prepare for citizenship. Proud that UpValley Family Centers are receiving this grant to carry on their incredible work.”

What is your Wildfire Safety Plan?

Wildfires can happen at anytime and can catch residents off-guard.

Ensure your safety by taking these steps:

  1. Evacuate promptly whenever a fire or disaster approaches.
  2. Discuss a meeting spot with loved ones in case returning home is not possible.
  3. Assemble an emergency supply kit with essential items.
  4. Familiarize yourself with Red Flag Warnings and how to access weather reports.
