Blue Zones Project Approved™

We are excited to announce that we are officially a Blue Zones Project Approved™ worksite! Blue Zones Project® is a community-led well-being improvement initiative designed to make healthy choices easier through permanent changes to a city’s environment, policy, and social networks. Last April, we took the Blue Zones Project Worksite Pledge to implement best practices for physical environment, benefits/well-being programs, leadership, social networks, purpose, and work community. We are grateful to our staff-led Wellness Committee for taking the lead in helping us to achieve this milestone and to the Blue Zones team for helping us along the way.

Blue Zones Project - Upper Napa Valley shared on their social media outlets last week, "We are thrilled to celebrate the Blue Zones Project Worksite Approval of UpValley Family Centers! As a community-based non-profit, taking the challenge to put employee well-bring at the forefront will only permeate into the work they do for the greater community! The UVFC team is a true pillar of our community leading well-being transformation!"

Save the Date!

UpValley Family Centers and Nimbus Arts will host the 15th Annual Día de los Muertos Community Celebration on Sunday, October 29, 2023, from 12:00pm to 4:00pm at the Upper Valley Campus of Napa Valley College, at 1088 College Avenue in St. Helena.

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a pre-Columbian Mexican holiday that honors life, death, and the memories of those no longer with us. We hope you'll join us in this time-honored tradition, taking this holiday as an opportunity to bring neighbors together and celebrate the cultural diversity that enriches our local community. The festival will include children’s arts and craft activities, live music and dance performances, and beautifully decorated altars. Food trucks featuring Latin American cuisine will be on hand as well.

This event is made possible thanks to our staff, volunteers, and generous sponsors:

The City of Saint Helena, Damian Maldonado Memorial Foundation, The Doctors Company, Former Mayor Alan and Dr. Catherine Galbraith,

Jones Family Vineyards – Elaine and Rick Jones, Pacific Gas and Electric Company and Westamerica Bank

"This opportunity to connect to the community via tutoring in the school is a very positive experience for me as a new resident." - Kris, Volunteer Tutor

Become a Volunteer Tutor!

Do you want to make a difference in the lives of students in our community? We are seeking volunteer tutors to support students in St. Helena and Calistoga. In partnership with the St. Helena Unified School District and Calistoga Joint Unified School District, we coordinate a Tutoring Volunteer Program to bring community-based volunteers into local schools, supporting St. Helena students in grades K-8 and Calistoga students in grades K-6.

Tutoring will take place on campus during school hours at participating schools. Volunteers may work one-on-one with students, in a group setting, or in a classroom for general assistance based on student and teacher needs. Subject matter will vary, including but not limited to reading, writing, math, and social skills. Volunteers are asked to commit at least one hour per week on a recurring basis throughout the school year.

All new tutors will receive an orientation and be asked to complete district-specific volunteer requirements, including paperwork, background check, TB screening or testing, and provide a copy of their driver’s license. If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out the volunteer interest form on our website!

What is your Wildfire Safety Plan?

Wildfires can happen at anytime and can catch residents off-guard.

Ensure your safety by taking these steps:

  1. Evacuate promptly whenever a fire or disaster approaches.
  2. Discuss a meeting spot with loved ones in case returning home is not possible.
  3. Assemble an emergency supply kit with essential items.
  4. Familiarize yourself with Red Flag Warnings and how to access weather reports.
