Working together to reduce youth access to tobacco products

The UpValley Partnership for Youth Coalition and Blue Zones Tobacco Policy work group from Blue Zones Project Upper Napa Valley are excited to share that the Tobacco Retail Licensing (TRL) Ordinance passed its first public hearing during Calistoga's City Council Meeting on September 10th! A second hearing will take place in October. The adoption of a Tobacco Retail Licensing Ordinance aims to address public health concerns associated with tobacco use. Tobacco use is a leading cause of preventable death, and regulating the sale of tobacco products may help reduce tobacco-related harms. By implementing a Tobacco Retail Ordinance, they aim to effectively reduce youth access to tobacco products, ensure compliance with other tobacco laws, control the location and concentration of tobacco retailers, and impose additional restrictions on the sale and promotion of tobacco products.

The UpValley Partnership for Youth is a coalition of community stakeholders, including parents, health providers, law enforcement, service providers, youth, educators, and community members, who work together to address the problem of underage drinking and substance use in our community. The coalition is coordinated by UpValley Family Centers & supported by Napa County Office of Education. For more information and how to get involved, please contact Karina Solis at ksolis@upvalleyfamilycenters.org

Join us for Día de los Muertos

UpValley Family Centers and Nimbus Arts will host the 16th Annual Día de los Muertos Community Celebration on Sunday, October 27, 2024, from 12:00pm to 4:00pm at the Upper Valley Campus of Napa Valley College, at 1088 College Avenue in St. Helena.

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a pre-Columbian Mexican holiday that honors life, death, and the memories of those no longer with us. We hope you'll join us in this time-honored tradition, taking this holiday as an opportunity to bring neighbors together and celebrate the cultural diversity that enriches our local community. The festival will include children’s arts and craft activities, live music and dance performances, and beautifully decorated altars. Food trucks featuring Latin American cuisine will be on hand as well.

This event is made possible thanks to our staff, volunteers, and generous sponsors:

The City of Saint Helena, Damian Maldonado Memorial Foundation, The Doctors Company, Former Mayor Alan Galbraith and Dr. Catherine Galbraith, Jones Family Vineyards – Elaine and Rick Jones, MCE Clean Energy, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, and Westamerica Bank
