Promotoras in action Our outreach staff and volunteer Promotoras have been busy with community education activities. Between COVID testing, the vaccine, and ever changing guidelines and tiers - there is a great need to get out the facts. There's also an opportunity to help families be prepared in the case of a disaster or prolonged power outage. We are happy to partner with local and statewide organizations including the Latino Community Foundation and Listos California to help residents learn about the vaccine, access local clinics, and feel more prepared about how to keep safe. Here are 5 quick tips that you can use: 1) get alerts to know what to do, 2) make a plan to protect your people, 3) pack a go bag with things you need, 4) build a stay box for when you can't leave, 5) help friends and neighbors get ready.
Youth connections Our CLARO and CLARA youth specialists, Jose Hernandez and Karina Solis, have led weekly online groups and individual mentoring with teens in Calistoga and St. Helena this school year, providing a valued peer network of support during the pandemic. Last week, 26 students attended our movie night, which featured the 2015 film Inside Out. This film highlighted the topic of emotions and let students know that it's okay to feel sadness and vulnerability in situations that are uncomfortable, and that those feelings can have positive effects by bringing us closer to family and friends. Each of the students were connected to the live stream video and received yummy snacks that are a must for any good movie night. Several more fun activities are in the works for this spring.
