Supporting Senior Wellness

Our Senior Wellness Program works closely with older adult communities in Calistoga. One such community is Rancho de Calistoga, a community of 184 mobile homes for community members ages 55+. Our staff connect residents with an array of resources that support quality of life. On any given week, you might find Devyn and Elena, our trusted senior outreach team, meeting one on one with residents, hosting groups that promote socialization and health, picking up and dropping off groceries, or collaborating with partners like Rianda House, the Calistoga Fire Department, and the Napa County Recovery Center to provide educational workshops and resources such as emergency preparedness and fresh produce distribution.

Rancho de Calistoga is a microcosm of a growing segment of our County – Napa County exceeds the statewide average for the proportion of adults ages 65 and up. Monthly workshops at Rancho (pictured above, left) have connected seniors with social and well-being activities such as karaoke and Psychoeducation in partnership with Mentis, gratitude jars, and coming up – line dancing as a part of our Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) grant though Napa County.

This work matters. In a time of increasing food, gas, and in-home care costs – older adults on fixed incomes are having a tough time coming out in the positive. Those on Supplemental Security Income (SSI) receive, on average, just $511 each month. Over 50% of Napa County seniors have incomes below the California Elder Index, a county-specific measure of the minimum income necessary to cover all of a senior’s basic needs.

Having resources available in the community, and the ability to participate with others, builds hope and connection.
