A trip to the Old Faithful Geyser

Now that many more people are getting vaccinated and COVID-19 rates are declining, people of all ages are delighting in the ability to gather outdoors once again. We were especially happy to bring together our senior women's group last week for lunch and a trip to the Old Faithful Geyser in Calistoga - the first such in-person gathering since the pandemic began. There was plenty of laughter and conversation as the women reconnected. This pandemic has been particularly hard on older adults, who have suffered significant isolation away from their loved ones. So this recent trip was a cherished activity - and a wonderful way to celebrate older adults month! As California makes plans to reopen, the UpValley Family Centers is preparing for and looking forward to safely resuming our senior women's weekly social group in person, among other services.

Contact our office for more information about the services offered for seniors in the upvalley region (707) 965-5010. The UpValley Family Centers' Senior Program is generously supported by the City of Calistoga, St. Helena Hospital Foundation/Adventist Health, Kaiser Permanente, Joseph & Vera Long Foundation, Latino Community Foundation, and individual donors.

Parenting during uncertain times

Studies have shown that children are more likely to misbehave if they grow up in an unpredictable environment. Given the constant changes in our world these days, creating a sense of stability for kids is tough! The Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) is here for you. UpValley Family Centers' Triple P accredited staff have conducted a series of discussion group presentations for St. Helena Preschool for All parents during the pandemic via Zoom. Topics have included: Bed Time Routines, Hassle Free Shopping, Managing Fighting and Aggression, Dealing with Disobedience, and Positive Self Esteem. 100% of participating parents report learning new skills. Our Triple P services, available in English and Spanish, will continue throughout the summer. In addition to discussion groups, we offer individual consultations for those who prefer one-on-one support. To learn more about our Triple P services, please call 707-965-5010 and ask for Lupe Maldonado. Triple P services are free of charge, and generously supported by a Master Settlement Agreement grant from Napa County.
