Our Dia de los Muertos Festival is rescheduled

New event date: November 16

Due to the continued possibility of impaired air quality this weekend, UpValley Family Centers and Nimbus Arts have rescheduled the Dia de los Muertos festival to Saturday, November 16, from 12-4pm. The event will still be held at the Upper Valley Campus of Napa Valley College, in St. Helena. There will be no event on this Saturday, November 2nd. We hope you'll join us on the 16th for a festive afternoon of traditional ofrendas or altars, music, dance, arts and crafts, delicious food, face painting, and fun for the entire family.

PSPS and related updates

Our community has been through a lot in the past several days with the Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS), the evacuation advisory in Calistoga, school and business closures, and poor air quality. The UpValley Family Centers will be open at all of our offices tomorrow, October 31, from 8:30am-5pm and staff will be available to provide information, connection to resources, and N95 masks if you need to be outdoors (it is recommended to stay indoors if the air quality is poor). All ESL and Plaza Comunitaria classes are canceled, however, for the remainder of the week.

The image above is a reminder about your safety as the power comes back on. The USDA offers a handy list of what to toss and what to keep after a power outage. This website offers additional tips and tools for managing your refrigerator and freezer before, during, and after an outage. If you have lost food and are facing economic hardship, please contact our office for an appointment (707) 965-5010. One of our case managers in Calistoga or St. Helena can assist you. You can also check out PG&E’s Safety Action Center for making sure that you, your family, your neighborhood, and even your pets are prepared before, during, and after a wildfire or another emergency.

Join a Lending Circle upvalley

The UpValley Family Centers is offering Lending Circles to upvalley residents, managed by the Mission Asset Fund. Lending Circles are formed between 6-12 people, with loan amounts ranging from as little as $300 to $2400. Lending Circles have been used to pay down debt, build or repair credit, put a down payment on a car, save for college, or to save for an emergency expense fund.
