Hilos Visibles/Visible Threads

Our Latina Senior Women’s Group in Calistoga proudly participated in creating some of the beautiful quilt squares that will be included in the Napa Valley Latino Heritage Committee Quilt Project. The artist of this square writes that the birds represent the skill and union needed to be a successful family, working as a team.

Hilos Visibles/Visible Threads looks at the rich Hispanic, Latino, and Californiano heritage within Napa. The quilt squares’ iconography reflects the importance of faith, ancestors, family, country, and unity in everyday life.

The exhibit will be displayed in two locations: Napa County Historical Society located in the Historic Goodman Library at 1219 First Street in Napa starting on October 7th, and St. Helena Historical Society at 1255 Oak Ave. St. Helena’s exhibit premieres on October 15th.

The exhibit is always free of charge and open to the public during the Historical Society’s regular business hours.

Save the Date!

UpValley Family Centers and Nimbus Arts will host the fourteenth annual Día de los Muertos Community Celebration on Sunday, October 30, 2022, from 12:00pm to 4:00pm at the Upper Valley Campus of Napa Valley College, at 1088 College Avenue in St. Helena.

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a pre-Columbian Mexican holiday that honors life, death, and the memories of those no longer with us. We hope you'll join us in this time-honored tradition, taking this holiday as an opportunity to bring neighbors together and celebrate the cultural diversity that enriches our local community.  The festival will include children’s arts and craft activities, live music and dance performances, and beautifully decorated altars.  Food trucks featuring Latin American cuisine will be on hand as well.

This event is made possible thanks to our staff, volunteers, and generous sponsors: City of St. Helena, Alan Galbraith - Former Mayor, Jones Family Vineyards - Elaine and Rick Jones, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, The Doctors Company, Damian Maldonado Memorial Foundation, and Westamerica Bank.
